More and more devices are equipped with USB connectivity. If you would look at the earlier personal computers which adapted the first USB ports (also called USB 1.0 or 1.1), you would see that there were only about two or less USB ports that come with them. Through time, they added more, from four to eight port in a single computer, so it could manage to take in all peripherals that are USB equipped. Truly, the Universal Serial Bus has attained its goal – to keep everything in the digital world go through a common door.
Nowadays since many of the modern devices need USB connectivity, sometimes not all computers will come with enough ports for all the devices that they need to connect. Certain USB controllers were developed to respond to this demand. There are now USB Hubs and USB PCMCIA Card Buses that could offer additional ports for all your USB needs.
A USB hub works like a plug extension. It takes power from one source, while it gives power to many other plugs. The hub is connected to a single USB port, while it provides additional ports for many other USB connectors. This way, you don’t have to worry about running out of ports, and at the same time, you don’t have to install additional physical ports to get what you need.
A USB PCMCIA Card Bus, however, is not connected to a USB port. It is connected to PC Card Bus slot of compatible bitrate, to give power to additional ports. While it goes to another type of port, its main objective is the same as the hub – to give room for more USB connector when you can’t get enough of them.
A handful of our modern gadgets will have to make use of these devices when we’ve run out of ports to connect them. Be careful, however, about overloading USB Connections, since these devices will use up additional computing power that can slow the computer down.
